FROM CHICAGO TO DALLAS: CREATING SIGNATURE LOOKS FOR JALISSA
One of the things I love most about being a hairstylist is that hair has taken me places I never imagined.
Recently, I had the opportunity to travel to Dallas to work with Jalissa, one of my favorite content creators. Moments like this always remind me how powerful it is to stay committed to your craft. Years ago, I was simply focused on perfecting my techniques behind the chair. Today, those same techniques have opened doors for me to work with incredible women across the country.
For this trip, our goal was simple: create versatile, beautiful looks that felt elevated, effortless, and camera-ready.
Of course, one of the styles we created was my signature Natural AF Updo—one of my most requested looks. I love this style because it gives the appearance of luxury and sophistication while still looking soft, natural, and timeless. It’s a style that photographs beautifully and transitions seamlessly from everyday wear to special events.
We also created a stunning highlighted bob that instantly became one of my favorite looks from the trip. There’s something about a well-cut bob paired with the perfect placement of color that completely transforms a look. It was chic, modern, and full of movement.
To complete the styling series, we created a beautiful flip-over style that gave volume, versatility, and effortless glamour. This look is perfect for women who want fullness and flexibility without sacrificing a natural appearance.
As hairstylists, it’s easy to think our work begins and ends at the salon. But opportunities like this remind me that our skills can take us far beyond the chair. Hair is more than a service—it’s a passport to relationships, experiences, travel, education, and opportunities we may never see coming.
One of the lessons I’ve learned throughout my career is that consistency matters. The styles I create today are the result of years spent practicing, learning, refining techniques, and showing up even when nobody was watching.
Working with Jalissa in Dallas was a reminder that the small things we do every day eventually become the opportunities we pray for.
